Community Code of Conduct

The open relationship and mutual respect between staff, parents and students at Carranballac College encourages a positive, happy learning environment. As a new school, Carranballac College is in the unique position of not having existing community structures. This area is made up of existing and rapidly developing housing estates and we have a community that is only starting to establish itself. The school has become the social centre for this community.

The school encourages parents to:

  • participate in school activities
  • attend information evenings and special events
  • support fundraising activities and financial contributions
  • promote our school within the wider community
  • become actively involved in voluntary work around the school
  • offer, where able, any expertise or resources that would compliment school programs
  • acknowledge achievements of individuals and groups within the school.

    The school expects parents to:

  • ensure regular and punctual attendance
  • ensure children arrive in a proper state of health and hygiene, and are appropriately attired each day
  • support the Student Code of Conduct
  • respect the professionalism of staff
  • provide the school with relevant information regarding the needs and necessities of their children (i.e. medical information)
  • respect the rights and privacy of other community members
  • instil a sense of pride, politeness and appropriate behaviour in children.

The school community has the right to expect:

  • confidentiality of personal information
  • an expression of appreciation for voluntary work
  • the physical safety of all children while under school care, and that emergency services will be called if necessary
  • that every effort will be made to ensure children will be free from harassment of any kind while under school care
  • information on their child’s progress
  • their children will be educated to the best of individual ability and that no child will be denied the right to a general education for personal, or financial reasons
  • respect from staff and students.

    Communication

Parents will be provided with continuing information regarding their child’s progress and school activities through; regular parent/teacher meetings, school reports, weekly newsletters, information evenings, informal discussion, public press release, annual report, questionnaires and regular parent group meetings.

    Voluntary

Community members assist in a variety of ways around the school:

  • literacy and numeracy learning tasks
  • classroom assistance
  • maintenance
  • canteen volunteers
  • library assistance
  • sporting programs
  • volunteer learning programs.

Carranballac Classroom Helpers program will be offered to parents who wish to undertake training in how to support teachers within classrooms in reading, writing, speaking & listening and numeracy. This program will be presented in four modules of one and a half hour duration over four weeks. Once trained, Classroom Helpers will be able to support in any classroom and can be identified by their own school name badges.

Parents who help in classrooms are expected to sign in at the office. Teachers can expect parents who come to their rooms to help will be wearing a visitor’s badge. This is important in our growing school for emergency management procedures.

The school will also interact with the wider community. Significant support from local businesses has already been obtained and in turn a “shop locally” policy is in place.
Visits by community groups will be encouraged to enrich student experiences. Resources within the wider community will be identified and used to support school programs.
An invitation to participate in school activities and functions will be distributed to the wider community as appropriate.
