Years 5/6: Literacy Tasks

  • List instructions for setting the table. Now follow your instructions. How can you edit the, to improve their accuracy?
  • Talks to an adult about your favourite types of books. What types of books did they enjoy reading when they were your age?
  • Think of a famous person who is making a difference to a global issue that you are concerned about. If you could ask this person tow questions, what would the questions be? Ask an adult to tell you two questions they would ask this person.
  • Find an adult who can teach you how to say “Hello, how are you?” and “I am well, thank you” in a new language.
  • Read the “Letters to the Editor” section of a newspaper. Identify two different points of view on the same issue. Talk with an adult about how the opinions differ.
  • Organise a family “Hangman” competition.
  • Ask an adult to locate some suitable recipe books for you to browse through. Plan out a healthy meal from the bok, taking into consideration everyone’s tastes in the family.
  • Read a story in the sports section of the newspaper, or in the footy record. Talk to an adult about the particular “sporting” words that are used in the story to create excitement and interest for readers.
